How does the Palworld Boss Optimizer choose Pals?

It ranks candidate Pals by Estimated Rotation Damage Index (ERDI), a comparison score based on Pal Attack, skill rotation, skill power and cooldown, passives, STAB and elemental effectiveness against the selected boss.

What does ERDI mean?

ERDI stands for Estimated Rotation Damage Index, this site's own theoretical comparison score for ranking Pals against a specific boss.

Is ERDI the same as in-game DPS?

No. ERDI is not measured in-game damage or DPS. It is a theoretical comparison score used only to rank Pals relative to each other for a given boss.

Does the optimizer consider elemental weaknesses?

Yes. The recommended attackers and their ERDI scores already factor in the boss's known elemental weaknesses and the Pal's own attack element.

Does the optimizer consider defensive matchups?

Yes, as a separate "Matchup" note (Resists / Vulnerable) shown per recommended Pal, based on the boss's known attack elements. It does not change the offensive ERDI ranking or the order Pals are recommended in.

Does the optimizer guarantee that a Pal will survive the fight?

No. A 2026-09-22 survivability audit found the current data does not yet support a reliable survival prediction (no verified boss damage output, Pal HP scaling or combat-duration model), so the optimizer's recommendations are an offensive comparison only, not a survival guarantee.

Can I change the Pal level used by the Boss Optimizer?

Yes. Use the level control on the boss page, or the ?level= URL parameter, to set the Pal level (1-80) the recommendation is calculated for.
